For central bank junkies, next Friday is the first day of the Jackson Hole central banker symposium, which is sponsored each year by the Kansas City Fed in late August. Market-moving news has often emerged from this gathering of the who’s who in central banking. Minutes from previous meetings of the Bank of England, Reserve Bank of Australia and FOMC get published next week, and the Bank of Iceland holds an interest rate meeting.
U.S. data releases include the CPI, housing starts, building permits, existing home sales, the National Association of Home Builders index, the Philly Fed manufacturing index, the Conference Board index of leading economic indicators, a preliminary manufacturing PMI estimate, and the usual weekly stuff like energy inventories, jobless insurance claims, chain store sales, consumer comfort and mortgage applications.

Japan will be reporting department and supermarket sales, the all industry index, the index of leading economic indicators, customs trade data, the preliminary factory PMI, and machine tool orders.
Some other Asian releases of note are Chinese property prices, foreign direct investment, and factory PMI, India’s index of leading economic indicators, Thai and Singaporean GDP, Malaysian consumer prices and South Korean producer prices.
The main Ezone data release of the week, due Thursday, is composite, manufacturing, and service PMIs for the whole region, Germany and France. Like other PMIs, these are preliminary calculations based on about 85% of the information used in the final estimates. The euro area also reports trade data, the current account, construction, consumer confidence and the index of leading economic indicators. German producer prices, Dutch and Belgian consumer confidence, the Portuguese PPI, Italy’s current account and Spanish trade arrive, too.
Britain’s data calendar shows the CPI, RPI, DCLG house price index, public sector borrowing, Rightmove house price index, survey of industrial trends and retail sales.
Some other European scheduled releases are Swiss trades and M3 money, Norwegian GDP, Danish retail sales and consumer sentiment, Czech producer prices, Polish industrial production, and Icelandic wages.
Canada releases consumer prices, retail sales and wholesale turnover. Mexico and Chile report GDP. Brazil’s current account is due.
Second-quarter producer prices for New Zealand get reported. Elsewhere in the Southern Hemisphere, Australian releases auto sales, consumer confidence and the index of leading economic indicators. South Africa reports on its GDP and CPI.
