During The Batman panel at DC FanDome, director Matt Reeves shared some behind the scenes facts about the Batsuit, such as it took a year to design.
Robert Pattinson's Batstuit in The Batman took roughly a year to design. There are a lot of DC projects on the horizon, but The Batman is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated. Pattinson will take over the role as Bruce Wayne in this new film directed by Matt Reeves that is most definitely not an origin story, but instead takes place within Bruce's second year as Batman. The Batman will also kick off a wider universe on television, with Reeves currently developing a television show centered on the Gotham Police Department.
The Batman was only 25% of the way into filming when production shut down earlier this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Luckily, things are expected to pick up next month, and Reeves was still able to appear at DC FanDome yesterday with some truly exciting reveals. In addition to premiering The Batman

's first trailer, Reeves shared some new tidbits about the film. From praising
The Batman's impressive supporting cast to revealing some of the behind the scenes processes for various elements, Reeves definitely wowed fans with his news.
Undoubtedly, one of the parts of The Batman that has gained the most interest from fans is the Batsuit. Reeves debuted the first official look at it back in February, and fans got new glimpses at it during the trailer. Reeves also delved into the process behind creating the Batsuit, explaining how he would still be writing the script when costume designer Glyn Dillon came up with various ideas. "I'd say we spent easily a year to do the Batsuit, and then to get into the Batmobile," Reeves said.
Earlier in the panel, Reeves also spoke about the plot considerations that went into the Batsuit. "The whole idea is that he's made it himself," Reeves explained. Finer details like gashes were put into the Batsuit to show how Bruce was still in the early days of his tenure as Batman and would often go out at night "looking for trouble." Pattinson also had a hand in designing the suit along with Dillion and Jacqueline Durran.
The Batsuit was positively received by fans when it was first revealed earlier this year, so it's safe to say that was a year well spent in coming up with its design. Many have noted that Pattinson's Batsuit looks notably different than past suits, which is clearly what Reeves and his team intended. Reeves emphasized how The Batman is striving to be a different iteration of the well-known character, and that's definitely why fans are especially excited to see the film. Regardless of how the rest of The Batman turns out, they've at least nailed the Batsuit.
